Instructions for writers

E-Signals is an open access publishing platform, which offers interesting content on Haaga-Helia UAS’s core comeptence areas. All e-Signals publications  go through a preliminary review, which is coordinated by the Haaga-Helia publications committee.

E-Signals publications might include texts, videos, audios etc. Currently we publish

We have also compiled professional and scientific publications by haagahelians which have been published elsewhere.

You can contact us at an earlier stage if you need guidance: julkaisut(at)haaga-helia.fi. Submit your final manuscript (word document, .doc or .docx) to julkaisut@haaga-helia.fi. If you are planning on a working paper or and audiovisual publication prepare for longer publishing process. Please, contact us at the earliest possible stage and take the longer process into account then planning the timetable of your publication.

Publication types

Blog texts are directed either at the big audience or the professional audience. They are based on the author’s expertise and work conducted at Haaga-Helia (publication type D).

An expert point of view is from 1,500 to 4,000 characters long, including spaces. The lenght of the text depends on the subject and content. Source references are not necessary, but we encourage to hyperlink any sources mentioned in the text.

The publishing decision is made by the publications committee. The editors may ask for changes to be made in the manuscript, and the editors also hold the right to make minor corrections to the language.

Professional articles are directed either at the big audience or the professional audience. They are based on the author’s expertise and work conducted at Haaga-Helia (publication type E or type D).

An expert point of view is from 3,000 to 8,000 characters long, including spaces. The lenght of the text depends on the subject and content. Source references are not necessary, but we encourage to hyperlink any sources mentioned in the text.

The publishing decision is made by the publications committee. The editors may ask for changes to be made in the manuscript, and the editors also hold the right to make minor corrections to the language. The publishing process takes about two weeks depending on the text.

 

Working papers present the results of R&D activities (type B. The empirical material is in the leading role, and by choosing sources which support the empirical findings.

Working paper article follows the general IMRAD structure of article writing: introduction and background, materials and methods, results, and discussion. The length of the article is from 10,000 to 20,000 characters (including spaces). The sources are referred to according to our reference style.

The publishing decision is made by the publication committee. The editors may ask for changes to be made in the manuscript, and the editors also hold the right to make minor corrections to the language. The publishing process takes from one to two months.

 

General instructions

Formatting

In addition to the main heading, there can be two subheading levels at the most. The main headings and the subheadings should be formatted clearly.

Tables and figures

Any tables and figures are marked with running numbers. They are placed in the correct place in the text. The headline of a figure is placed under the figure, and the headline of a table is placed on top of the table. Figures are sent in separate picture files. Always include the original file.

Photos

Each publication has at least one photo which the editorial board will acquire. If you wish, you can submit your own photos. They must be as separate files (.jpg or .png). Make sure that you have the right to use the picture. Minimum width is 1,600 px, resolution 72 ppi, and the orientation is preferably landscape. You can search for a suitable photo from Haaga-Helia image bank or use image banks on the internet. Always identify the source of the picture.

Rights and liability

E-Signals is open access: all publications are free and available to anyone.

Proofreading and translatations

Haaga-Helia does not provide English proofreading or translation services.
